After spending 10 years as a regional chef in the Deep South, I spent the last 23 years as a journalist and editor. During that time, I also wrote a weekly nationally syndicated humor column for News Media Corporation that was awarded “Best Local Column” from both the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.

My first book, Humor at the Speed of Life (2013), is a collection of columns over my first 16 years at Siuslaw News, where I also served as editor-in-chief from 2016-2021. My second book, Pearls of Writing Wisdom: from 16 shucking years as a columnist (2016), is a writer's guide offering tips, insights and perspectives from my many years as a columnist, journalist and writer.

I'm currently finishing my third book, No Safe Harbor, a murder mystery set in Seattle, Wash. I'm also the host of "Humor at the Speed Life," a weekly radio program on KXCR 90.7 FM, which is aimed at "bringing folks together through our shared experience as people, in the common language we all speak through humor."

Now retired from journalism, I own my own novel and screenplay editing service, Easy Writer Editing Services. I live on the Oregon coast with my incredible wife, 2003 Harley Sportster, our dog and entirely too many seagulls.
