Believable dialogue stems from a character’s past

Dialogue can be the quickest way to establish or discredit a character in your story. More than just words that communicate information about the story and character, dialogue should stem from deep within your characters’ own life experiences and perspectives. When writing dialogue, ask yourself “why” they are saying this and does it reflect their voice or yours?
